Fly-Tying Workshops for Adults: Beginners

For first time participants or participants that have limited experience creating fly lures. Fly-tying is a combination of an art form and science. Learn how to make fishing lures used in fly-fishing that are both beautiful and functional in their representation of native North American insects during this workshop hosted by entomologist, Andy Boswell, M.S. Discover the world of aquatic insects and their role in stream ecology and fish life cycles. Also, learn the techniques and skills necessary to recreate anatomically correct insect lures for a more effective fishing experience. Participants will create two fly lures to add to their collection during this workshop. Participants are welcome to register for both sessions for additional supplies and time to tie. Space is limited and advance registration is required. On-site registration is not available for this program. To enroll, please call (405) 325-1008. Family Invertebrate Fossil Field Trip

The Sam Noble Museum invites families to join invertebrate paleontology curator Dr. Steve Westrop for an exciting journey into Oklahoma’s Paleozoic past. Explore life in Oklahoma’s ancient oceans on Friday evening with a close-up look at some of the museum’s finest invertebrate specimens. On Saturday morning, we will depart from the museum at 9 a.m. and travel in university vans to the site where you will find a variety of marine fossils that you can take home. Bring a sack lunch, snacks, comfortable shoes and plenty of water. This field trip is for children 7 & up with an adult. Friday, April 25, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Space is limited and advance registration is required. On-site registration is not available for this program.
