We are pleased to announce the 10th annual Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair! Any student from grades pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade who is learning a Native American language at any skill level is invited to participate.

Students present spoken language and songs in Native American languages to their peers, the public, and a panel of judges made up of elders and language teachers. Student books, videos, and poster art are displayed. Language advocacy essays are read. Come to participate or to see the students' wonderful performances, and join in the fun! Categories and age divisions for the 2012 ONAYLF are as follows:

  1. Spoken Language (Group and Individual) - PreK-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th-12th
  2. Song in Native Language (Group and Individual) - PreK-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th-12th
  3. Language with PowerPoint - 6th-8th, 9th-12th
  4. Language Masters - 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, 9th-12th
  5. Poster Art - 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, 9th-12th (theme: "I Am My Language")
  6. Book - PreK-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th-12th
  7. Film/Video - 6th-8th, 9th-12th
  8. Advocacy Essay - 9th-12th

Guidelines for each category may be downloaded via the links on the right-hand menu of this website. Please read the guidelines carefully, as some changes have been made.

Registration Opens Monday - January 9, 2012

Registration Closes Monday - March 12, 2012

To register, a teacher, program coordinator, or parent must complete and submit the following:

  • Cover Sheet
  • List of students
  • Performance Entry Form(s) - 1 for each individual or group performance
  • Other appropriate lists

All materials are included in the Registration Packet, which is available for download in the links menu on the right-hand side of this page. The packet contains more detailed instructions on specific forms.

Instructions for how to submit materials via mail, fax, or email are included in the Letter of Invitation, which is also available for download.

Registration forms are due by March 12, 2012. Poster art, book, film/video, advocacy essays, and PowerPoint presentations must also be completed and submitted by March 12. Late submissions will not be accepted.
