Special Offer: Museum Story on DVD

Grand Prize winner, 2003 Oklahoma IndieFest
Film Festival

This 52-minute documentary covers the history of the museum from the days of Oklahoma Territory through the dedication of a new state-of-the-art facility in 2000. It ends in 2002 and is the story of the people of Norman and of Oklahoma rallying around and building a new museum in the face of great opposition; a story of hope for all museums.

The film shows the natural landscapes of Oklahoma and traces the museum's history from 1899. It was co-produced by former Museum Director Michael A. Mares and Mark and Roberta Richman, sister and brother-in-law of famed actor Al Pacino.

"Henry Ward Beecher wrote, 'It is not the going out of port, but the coming in, that determines the success of a voyage.' We had left port more than a decade and a half earlier. With the dedication of the new Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History we had finally completed a most successful voyage..."
