Loan Kits and Scientific Specimens

Loan kits and scientific specimens are available at no charge to Educators. The kits must be picked up at the museum and the loan period is up to two weeks. Call (405) 325-4711 ex. 3 or email education@snomnh.ou.edu to start the loan process.

Loan kits meet Science Process Standards for classification as well as select Science and Social Science PASS standards.

Dinosaur Dig - Grades PreK-2
This kit contains background information, a short photo essay on a dinosaur excavation, a set of real dinosaur fossils, and excavation tools. Educators may bury the fossils then direct the students in an excavation.

Excavation to Exhibit - Grades 1-3
Books, a flannel board story, and dinosaur replicas will help you introduce your students to paleontology and the process of finding, excavating, identifying and understanding fossils.

Oklahoma's Ancient Seas - Grades 2-5
Oklahoma's fascinating invertebrate fossil history is represented in this kit, which includes real fossils and an identification guide.
PASS Grade 4: Earth Science Standard 4.2

Native American History in OK - Grades 3-6
This kit focuses on the history of several tribes in Oklahoma: Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole. The kit contains student activity sheets, background materials, original artifacts and replicas.
PASS Grade 4: Social Studies Standard 5.1 and 5.2 Grade 5: Social Studies Standard 1.2 and 6.2

Diaries in the Dirt - Grades 4-6
Introduce your students to Oklahoma archaeology as part of the study of human history. This kit has activities and games that simulate excavating Oklahoma cultures and interpreting their artifacts.
PASS Grade 4: Social Studies Standard 4.2; Grade 5: Social Studies Standard 1.1, 7.5; Grade 6: Standard 1.1

Rocks and Minerals - Grades 5-8
This collection of real rocks and minerals is perfect for teaching your students the basics of geology through observations, activities and experiments. It includes background information for Educators.
PASS Grade 8: Earth Science Standard 4.1 and 4.2

Ask us about our Special Loans: In addition to the formal kits the Sam Noble Museum's Education Department also maintains a scientific loan collection that includes animal skins, skeletons, taxidermy specimens, fossils and artifact replicas. The museum's professional Educators will be happy to work with you to put together a loan that will meet your special needs.
