Getting Started:Volunteer Photo
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact the Volunteer Department at (405) 325-1652 or volunteer@snomnh.ou.edu.

Those interested in the Volunteer Program are required to fill out an application. Candidates will then be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator to set up an interview in order to assess what position best suits the individual. One 2-hour orientation session and five 2-hour training sessions are required for all volunteers. Additional training is required to be a docent, greeter or volunteer in the Discovery Room.

Requirements:Volunteering Photo
The volunteer program is open to all interested individuals. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and are expected to work a minimum of six hours a month. Docents are expected to work a minimum of nine hours a month. Many volunteer positions have the option of working weekdays or weekends. Please be aware that placement is contingent upon a background check.

If you have further questions about the Volunteer Program, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at the museum, Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Training:
Volunteers come to the museum with a wide variety of skills. However, experience is not required. Each department will work with volunteers to ensure that they have the information and support needed to complete their task. For dates, please see above.


Volunteer Positions...

Discovery Room Attendants
Volunteers assist in the Discovery Room, an interactive learning area for children and adults. Ten hours of training is required. Additional, on-the-job training is provided.
Docent Photo
Docents
Docents work with the public as guides and interpreters of the various exhibits in their chosen galleries. Thirty hours of training is required.

Greeters

Volunteers greet school groups, answer visitors' questions, and provide directions to various areas of the museum. Ten hours of training is required. Additional, on-the-job training is provided.

Information Desk Attendants
Volunteers answer visitors' questions, provide directions to various areas of the museum, sell tickets and keep brochures and maps stocked. Ten hours of training is required. Additional, on-the-job training is provided.

Discovery Room Volunteer PhotoMuseum Store

Volunteers staff Excavations, the museum store, stock merchandise and provide customer service. Ten hours of training is required. Additional, on-the-job training is provided.

Teen Volunteer Program
Teens ages 13 to 18 can participate in the Teen Volunteer Program which begins Monday, June 7. Please contact the Volunteer Department for more information, (405) 325-1652 or volunteer@snomnh.ou.edu.
